It’s always great doing something new for the first time. I’ve learnt that it could lead to something new that can be your new favourite thing to do. Challenging yourself to be out of your comfort zone is challenging in its self. I guess what I’m trying to say is, recently I got an opportunity to go to Seville, Spain with Tanqueray to take some lifestyle images for the brand.
When I took up photography seriously I never knew it would take me to such incredible places. I have enjoyed each moment of this journey and it seems like there may be much more enjoyable moments to come. I remember receiving the call enquiring about my availability for the trip. Deep down I was super nervous and I thought maybe this was also a prank. Thinking back now I can see that those thoughts came from a place of discomfort more than anything. I was scared of the unknown and having not been that far from home was quite daunting.
Fearing the unknown is a real thing and I’m glad I have conquered this “fear of travel”. Going to Spain with Tanquery South Africa came with many lessons. There was a lot of work that had to be done and short space of time after we encountered many challenges. It taught me the importance of being in a team that wanted the same outcome and how we needed to work in unison to get the most out of everyone. Accountability, is something most will steer from but for you to be accountable you need to own the space in which you work so that you can produce the desired work. Also, the attitude you bring with you to work will carry you throughout the day, remaining positive even when at times you felt you could strangle people is so important because it’s easier to keep your cool when the tough gets going.
Seville, has open my eyes in more ways than I can tell. My thinking has changed about the outside world. Moreover, I have learned that travel is so important as a creative. You have to expand on your creativity by experiencing the reality of the world and its vast cultures.
